I definitely don't think everyone should learn to code, because it's not for everyone. You have to want to learn to code for the right reasons to be successful and prolific with it. I do feel like it is a productive use of our time, because so far, software, AI, and machine learning have all helped us to some great discoveries that otherwise would have taken us longer than the age of the universe to discover.

I have a feeling that coding will produce AI and machine learning systems that will be instrumental in fighting climate change, and discovering cures to diseases among other things.

The fact that code took us to outer space back in the 1960s and has stuck around since then indicates that it will play an important role in the future to come.
